The plant’s distribution area extends from Northern India to Indonesia. The fruits, resembling willow, hazelnut, or birch buds, are harvested and dried at various stages of ripeness, then used not only as a spice but also as a medicinal remedy. Long peppers are considered the first type of pepper to reach Europe in ancient times, known long before black pepper. The longest fruits of this pepper are sharper than black pepper but can be used in just as many ways. Long peppers are pungent and warming with a sweet and earthy aftertaste. They emit a pleasant, cinnamon-like aroma that evokes memories of Christmas. Long peppers are suitable for crushing in a mortar, but you can also grind them in a mill. When used whole, they will enhance the flavour bouquet and impart a subtly sweet floral aroma to sauces, broths, and marinades. Caution: as cooking time increases, so will the pungency, so we recommend adding them closer to the end of cooking for those who prefer a milder taste. Appearance: 2-5 cm large, brownish-grey fruits resembling birch buds. Taste: sweet, spicy, with a cinnamon-like aftertaste. Dishes: all meat dishes, especially game, fish, stews, strong cheeses, compotes, and even desserts. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
These long peppers come from a climbing plant with roots emerging from the shoot nodes.
