Description
Origin: Sri Lanka
Clove spice comes from the aromatic flower buds of the clove tree, harvested and dried. These trees are common in Indonesia, India, Madagascar, Sri Lanka, and Tanzania. Unlike most spices, cloves aren’t hand-picked; instead, they’re shaken from the flower stem.
Cloves pair wonderfully with cinnamon, allspice, vanilla, red wine, basil, onion, citrus zest, or star anise. Combined with arrowroot, cloves are also used to make natural blush or foundation.
HOW TO USE: Cloves are used in Asian, African, Middle, and Near Eastern cuisine for meats, curries, and pickling various products. They also add their flavor to fruits like apples, peaches, or rhubarb. Cloves give a special aroma and taste to hot drinks, usually combined with lemon and sugar. They are also one of the spices in pumpkin pie and an ingredient in Belgian speculoos cookies.
MANASGARSAS.LV TIP: Create an unforgettable hot drink for cool evenings – add cinnamon caramelized in brown sugar, vanilla, cloves, and fresh lemon zest to apple juice. If you like, enrich the drink with one star anise.
