Description
Depending on the variety, basil leaves can be green, red, or purple. It’s best to use basil fresh or gently dried, as it loses most of its aroma during cooking or frying. Native to India, basil has long been valued for its healing properties, but today it’s most widely used in Italian cuisine.
USAGE: This aromatic herb pairs perfectly with tomato dishes, sauces, salads, meat and fish dishes, soups, and fresh pesto. It’s widely used in pasta dishes.
MANASGARŠAS.LV RECOMMENDATION: Try making a “winter” pesto – mix dried basil with olive oil, crushed pine nuts, and Parmesan-style cheese. Add garlic if you like.
