Hawaiian Red Salt (Alea Red)

Description

This unrefined sea salt gets its rosy-brown hue from mixing with Hawaiian volcanic clay (“alea”) and boasts a high iron oxide (FeO2) content. The saltwater is evaporated in rock or mountain rock basins that naturally contain iron oxide, resulting in large, reddish salt crystals. Plus, it’s packed with 80 different naturally occurring minerals, including potassium and magnesium.

Alea Red salt is a significant product in local cuisine and beyond – Hawaiians have used this salt for years to clean utensils and consecrate their temples and homes.

It’s worth noting that a large portion of Alea Red salt is produced in California, not sourced from Hawaii. Authentic Alea Red is expensive and sometimes hard to get outside of Hawaii. But we’re proud to offer our customers an original product from Molokai Island, also known as the Friendly Island, located in the vast Hawaiian archipelago.

100 g of Alea Red salt contains: 99.5 g sodium chloride (including 39 g sodium and 60.5 g chlorine); 1420 mg/kg sulfur; 0.059 g calcium; 0.16 g magnesium; 0.11 g potassium and other macro- and microelements.
