Description
Cloves are harvested by gathering and drying the aromatic flower buds of the clove tree. You’ll find them commonly grown in Indonesia, India, Madagascar, Sri Lanka, and Tanzania. Unlike most other spices, cloves aren’t picked by hand; instead, they’re shaken off the flower stem.
Cloves pair perfectly with cinnamon, allspice, vanilla, red wine, basil, onion, citrus zest, or star anise. Combined with arrowroot, cloves are even used to create natural blush or foundation.
HOW TO USE: Cloves are a staple in Asian, African, Middle, and Near Eastern cuisines, perfect for meat dishes, curries, and marinades. They also lend their unique flavor to fruits like apples, peaches, or rhubarb. Cloves add a special aroma and taste to hot drinks, usually combined with lemon and sugar. They’re also a key spice in pumpkin pie and a classic ingredient in Belgian speculoos cookies.
MANASGARSAS.LV TIP: Create an unforgettable hot drink for chilly evenings – add cinnamon, vanilla, cloves, and fresh lemon zest, all simmered in brown sugar, to apple juice. If you like, enrich your drink with a single star anise.
