Description
Liquorice is a wonderful gift from nature. Thanks to its countless beneficial properties, this plant is widely used in both medicine and cooking. Liquorice calls Central Asia, the lower reaches of the Don and Volga, the shores of the Sea of Azov, the North and East Caucasus, and Southern Europe its home. In sandy areas and along the banks of these rivers, this plant has spread just like a weed.
Liquorice root contains glycosides, sucrose, flavonoids, various essential oils, vitamin C, yellow pigment, minerals, and soluble fiber – pectins. In Kyrgyzstan, liquorice is a tea substitute. In Japan, this plant is added to food products as an antioxidant, while in Egypt, liquorice is used for its bactericidal and fungicidal properties.
Since ancient times, expectorants have been made from liquorice roots and shoots. In cases of lung diseases, especially those associated with a cough, folk medicine recommends using a decoction of liquorice root extract.
USAGE: Liquorice is a great addition to fish and is also often added to green and black tea.
MANASGARSAS.LV RECOMMENDATION: Try making liquorice root tea with fresh ginger! The tea will also taste great chilled, with a slice of lemon or lime added.
