Description
Dill is a unique plant because both its leaves and seeds are used as spices. Dill leaves are delicate, fern-like, and have a mild, sweet taste. Dried dill seeds taste similar to caraway, with a sweet, citrusy, and slightly bitter aroma. Traditionally, dill was used to soothe the stomach and help with insomnia.
Dill seeds are great for cooking fish, like salmon or trout, and vegetables. You can also simply place them on the dining table to soothe your stomach with a few seeds after a meal.
USE: For fish dishes, crayfish, as a small addition to meat dishes, and potato dishes. Dill seeds can be added to various savory doughs (bread, pizza, savory pies), as well as soups and cottage cheese dishes.
MANASGARŠAS.LV TIP: Try making a garnish for homemade aspic – take ½ teaspoon of dill seeds, 5 bay leaves, 1-2 garlic cloves, and 6-8 crushed black peppercorns. Add the spice mixture to meat broth. During the cooking process, add lemon juice to taste.
